Présentation

JasperReports is a report engine developed by Jaspersoft and distributed under an open source licence. iReport is Jaspersoft's historical report designer. These tools have been around since 2001 and are already widely used in the reporting segments of many business applications.

The JasperReports engine can generate reports in PDF, HTML, XML, CSV, RTF, XLS, ODT, ODS, Flash, DOCX, XLSX and TXT formats. It uses JFreeChart to generate graphs and can be integrated in any application developed in Java. In addition to the classic databases, it also supports multidimensional analytical servers, which makes it possible to take full advantage of the possibilities of a Mondrian server, directly in a JasperReports report.

Since 5.5 version, the report designer iReport has been replaced by Jaspersoft Studio, an Eclipse plugin, which is now the official report designer/builder of JasperReports. JasperSoft will continue to support iReport, fixing major bugs, but will not be integrating new features. Reports build with iReport are compatible with JasperSoft Studio. Fully integrated in JasperServer (the reporting server of the JasperSoft BI suite), the studio can access the reports repository, allowing publishing reports directly on the JasperReports Server.

JasperReports has a community edition (AGPL) and a commercial edition (under a proprietary licence). The commercial edition provides essentially a library of more advanced graphics.
