A downloadable version of Ghost is now available to the public

It is now possible to download the tool. The main objective of Ghost, which operates under the MIT license, is to provide a JavaScript blog platform which is simpler than existing ones. However, it is not yet possible to use the service online.

The project was funded through the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter. The 6000 financial partners have tested the solution for three weeks, states the Ghost blog, which mentions the origins of the platform, of which the concept was born only one year ago. More than 20 people have contributed to the present version available to the public.

It is possible to download Ghost’s source code. A Ghost Guide is also available to help users. Partnerships have been made to aid the platform’s installation, notably Bitnami, which allows a user without technical knowledge to install the software on their computer. Bitnami also enables you to deploy your Ghost install to a live server. In addition, a combination of graphic themes was launched by the launch partner Ghost Envato.

Furthermore, there is a beta version of the software online. This version will create a blog hosted by Ghost in a few clicks. It is also possible to customise the domain name of your blog. This online version is expected to be officially released in a few months.

A major strength highlighted by Ghost is its ease of use. The blogger screen is divided into two sections: On the left side the text is written in the Markdown language and on the right side a preview is available of the content after being converted into HTML. In addition, extensive information is available directly on the platform (blog statistics, reactions on social networks ...). The user can also create and customise their own dashboard using drag-and-drop widgets. The theme and functionalities can also be customised (via the development of plug-ins). Furthermore, the web application Ghost is totally responsive and adapts to all terminals.
